Anatomist's Notebook, 1833-1835

This small notebook contains minutely detailed accounts kept by Robert Twentyman Lightfoot LRCSEd, a demonstrator of anatomy for Dr Robert Knox. Lightfoot was close friends of William Fergusson (later Sir), well known for being surgeon to Queen Victoria (and also for his association with Knox during the Burke and Hare scandal). Lightfoot became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1833. 

The accounts were created between 1833-1835, and were possibly kept for Lightfoot's mother, who may have been financing his medical education and travel in the UK then to France and Germany.

Lilghtfoot lists medical book, food and drink costs, laundry, clothes purchases for instance, including “8 linen shirts, 3 night shirts, 3 pairs white trousers, 4 night caps …tartan dressing gown….tin case with diploma … lecture tickets … bribe [?] for doorkeeper…dissections costs… fare by steam boat to Newcastle … fare from New Castle.
