Wooden Foetal Stethoscope, 19th century

Description Used to listen to the foetus within the womb. It is used by holding the wide end against the pregnant woman's abdomen and listening through the smaller end. The original device was designed by Adolphe Pinard, a French obstetrician, in 1895. These devices are still used in some areas by midwives today.
