Licentiate of the College was a Mrs. Ann Ker, a midwife, who petitioned the College for formal recognition of her skills in 1751. A group of its members was appointed to examine her specially. We see from their report in February 1752 that they thoroughly examined her in all aspects of practical midwifery and concluded that "she is in every respect Extreamly well Qualified to Discharge the office of a Midwife and well deserves the favour of a Licence from the Corporation"
