Thomas Wood was one of the last of the general practice surgeons and a brother of ‘Lang Sandy Wood’. He was President of the College from 1792 to 1794.
During his presidency, a major revision of the rules took place. College Minutes for 12th September 1793 record that ‘Having taken into consideration that the Laws and Regulations have not been revised and arranged for a great number of years and have fallen into confusion in consequence of the numerous alterations and new enactments which have taken place since the last Revisal so that it has now become difficult to ascertain what is the existing law ... Therefore to prevent such inconvenience in future and that no one may plead ignorance in excuse for Transgression or Omission, the Royal College and Incorporation has ordered the several laws and regulations as they at present stand in the Sederunt books to be revised and digested by a Committee appointed for the purpose’.
