  • Born 1887 in Clyde, New Zealand, to Dr John Galbraith Hyde, Medical Superintendent of Clyde (Dunstan) Hospital.

    Graduated M.D. from Otago Medical School 1910.

    Served aboard hospital ship "Maheno" during World War One, with spells at Featherston Camp, New Zealand.

    Became FRCS in 1921 and practised in London and Vienna before moving to Australia in 1929, serving in the Australian Merchant Navy.

    Serving aboard "Neptuna" when the Japanese attacked Darwin on 19th February 1942, where he was awarded the Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea and an MBE. Thereafter served aboard the "Marella", running troops between Australia, Lae and Bougainville.

    Died 28th December 1955 while fishing at Timburn Station, New Zealand.
