Description Act of the Town Council of Edinburgh, in favour of the chirurgians of Edinburgh, exempting them from holding any civic office, such as captain of the burgh, "that they may be frie of all the offices or any charge of that kynd all tyme comeing, so also that they have the full injoyment and peaceable possession of all their other severall ryghts, priviledges, immunities and exemptions grantit or ratified to them and that for them and their successors chirurgians freemen of this burgh in all tyme comeing and statuts and ordaines that nane molest them therein and prohibites any persone to prejudge them of the same in any tyme comeing" as a result of one of their members, Arthur Temple, having been elected one of the Captains of Council.
