Description | Following the success at Royaumont, and at the request of the French Army, another hospital was established by Royaumont doctors in 1917 at Villers Cotterêt (40 miles from Royaumont). This operated more as a satellite field ambulance of Royaumont, rather than a new unit. Unlike the tented hospital that had operated at Troyes, this hospital was based in wooden huts, including a theatre, laboratory, administration and kitchens, and also a huge x-ray hut. The huts were spaced out in two rows, with each ward named after one of the Allies. Villers Cotterêt was particularly inundated with patients after the German offensive on the Noyan-Montdidier front in March 1918. |
