Description | This was the first Scottish Women's Hospital unit to leave Britain for Serbia in December 1914. They arrived in Kragujevac, a city in Central Serbia, in January 1915. Conditions were horrendous, particularly as Serbia was gripped by a typhus epidemic, and four staff lost their life to the disease. In Serbia around 80 women with the the Scottish Women's Hospitals were effectively held as prisoners of war by the German army. |
