Description | The speculum is one of the oldest gynaecological instruments and little has changed in its design. It is used in pelvic exams, designed to help investigate and diagnose vaginal and uterine conditions. The design is like a duck bill and is inserted closed into the vagina and gently opened to conduct the examination. Given the design and materials used to make this speculum it has been estimated that this was used during the late 19th and early 20th century. |
