I should suppose you saw the flaming account of the First Case in the last Medical Times”. Wilde became embroiled in controversy when accused of seducing a patient while she was under chloroform. The accusation was distributed widely in a pamphlet by the patient in 1863. Although the judge dismissed the charge because it had not been reported at the time, and the patient had continued corresponding with Wilde, he suffered considerable reputational damage.
