Description James Borthwick produced before the baillie an Act of Council (direct from the provost baillies and council) ordaining that the baillies take in the signs and basins of the unfreemen barbers of the Canongait "untill they should come in and be subject unto the orders and injunctiones of the said deacon and craft." Robert Preist and five other Canongait barbers "willinglie and of their owne frie will and accord in obedience to the said acts and ordinances, submittit themselves thereto". (22 August 1649)
